Have you ever considered a career in Highways, specialising in Asset Management and Records? Would you thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and like to gain an academic qualification, whilst being paid? If so, West Berkshire Council has an exciting opportunity for you to join our Transport and Countryside Service as a Senior Technician.

If you enjoy a combination of desk-based work with some requirement for outside working, enjoy using mapping for studying and displaying data, are comfortable talking to people and have a practical mind, then working as a Senior Technician in our Highway Asset Management team is the role for you.

In helping to maintain our public highways and our highways asset database, you would be assisting with a wide variety of tasks including:

  • Determining the limits of highway land using desk-based assessments and on-site inspections.
  • Assisting colleagues within the Highways Asset Management team, as well as the wider Council, with what we are responsible for maintaining as a local highway authority.
  • Responding to highway search enquiries from the general public on all matters relating to highway boundaries and adoption status.
  • Managing and updating the Councils database of highways assets including highway boundaries, adoption records and other Council owned highway assets using GIS.
  • Assessing, issuing, and recording various Highways Act licences and consents.

You don't necessarily need to have any previous highways experience, as we will provide you with excellent training and development to help you succeed. You will also need a full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle in order to fulfil this role.
