Vacancy Description

We are looking to recruit an experienced Highway Engineer to manage our small Highway Maintenance team.

Reporting to the Asset Manager, you will contribute to the delivery of Transport and Countryside Services in West Berkshire, with specific responsibility for the delivery of highway maintenance.

You will be required to provide professional and technical advice on all matters relating to highway maintenance, as well as developing and managing the Council’s reactive, routine and programmed highway maintenance and improvement works through the Council’s Highways Term Contract. In addition, you will be required to be the lead officer in the development and delivery of the winter service.

You should hold a Degree in Civil Engineering or be professionally qualified to Incorporated Engineer (I Eng) and / or have significant experience in the procurement, management and delivery of highway and engineering works. You should be committed, enthusiastic and adaptable, with the ability to work to agreed deadlines and budgets.

This role requires the incumbent to have a car available at work to undertake his/her duties as they will be expected to undertake at least 1500 business miles per year. Essential Car User status attracts a lump sum allowance paid on a monthly basis as well as a free car parking space if he/she works at one of the Council’s corporate buildings.
