Vacancy Description

West Berkshire is a unitary authority of 704 square kilometres (272 square miles), located in the south east of England. It contains both towns and extensive rural areas, with about 90% of the District being rural in character (74% being in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)).  The rural environment of West Berkshire adds significantly to the quality of life enjoyed by urban residents of the District and is a considerable asset for the wider area.

The importance of agriculture and rural businesses, the prominence of landscape and countryside along with the small scale and dispersed nature of rural communities, are all important issues and challenges, not least the continual pressure from development.

West Berkshire Council is looking to recruit a highly motivated ecologist with good ecological knowledge of a range of habitats and species, experience of providing high quality ecological advice with excellent communication and negotiation skills.

You are able to work on your own initiative, as well as work to tight deadlines, have a flexible attitude to work and a passion for the environment.  In return, West Berkshire District Council offers excellent employee benefits such as flexible working, access to a wide range of relevant training, local government pension scheme, family friendly policies, a range of local discounts and much more. You will also have a generous annual leave entitlement of 28 days per annum rising to a maximum of 33 days, depending on how long you’ve worked for us.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday 2nd October 2019 in our Market Street Offices in Newbury.

For an informal discussion, please contact Bryan Lyttle, Planning & Transport Policy Manager, on 01635 519638
