Vacancy Description

West Berkshire Council is looking to recruit an administrator to join our staff team at Birchwood Care Home which provides nursing care and care for frail elderly residents, some with dementia and challenging behaviour.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills, who is ready for a challenge, has empathy for older people, commitment and a values based approach to their work.

As a provider of services we aim to offer a friendly, safe and secure environment for our residents, whose needs are always our top priority.  Services are delivered within the context of our values; Respect, Inclusion, Compassion and Empowerment. Those values dictate how we support our residents, their families and each other.

The person working in this position will have a key role in providing the first contact to many families.  It is therefore vital that you are friendly, approachable and able to cope calmly and sensitively in all situations. We are looking for an administrator who can work as an integral part of the team which is always striving to improve standards within the home. You would work particularly closely with the senior leadership of the home, providing them with wide ranging-administrative support. Your work will be varied, as you will have daily contact with families, residents, staff, external professionals and contractors. Your responsibilities would include: answering the phone and welcoming visitors at reception, maintaining accurate resident and staff records, processing goods and services, receipting deliveries, and approving invoices for payment, being accountable for petty cash and resident’s personal money, taking minutes at meetings and acting in a personal assistant capacity to the Home Manager.

This role has been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2017; the requirement to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English applies.

West Berkshire Council offer excellent employment benefits such as flexible working, access to a wide range of relevant training, local government pension scheme, family friendly policies, a range of local discounts and much more. You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement of 27 days per annum rising to a maximum of 32 days, depending on how long you’ve worked for us and the grade of your job.

Please Contact Carla Kell, Home Manager, on 01635 33967 for an informal chat about this role.
