Vacancy Description

We are looking for a full-time Principal Policy Officer to join the ‘Performance, Research and Risk’ team.  The role has two main areas of focus: the Health and Wellbeing Board (H&WBB) (including its sub-groups) and the Overview and Scrutiny Management Commission (OSMC).

H&WBB: The post holder will work supporting the governance arrangements of the Health and Wellbeing Board and associated sub-groups, supporting the development of plans and strategies and support the members of the Board to identify relevant needs and ways in which to provide a partnership response to these needs.

OSMC: the role will require working with the Chair of OSMC to devise an ongoing work programme for the Commission which reflects the principles already agreed. It also includes preparing research reports in support of the work programme and presenting these to the Commission and other Committees and Boards as appropriate.

Another component of the role is working with Directors and Heads of Service to agree work priorities and resourcing requirements for OSMC. The post holder will providing challenge and scrutiny both in public meetings and outside and generally supporting Members of OSMC in fulfilling their scrutiny and overview role.

You should be educated to degree level or equivalent, have experience in providing democratic support and administrative work in a corporate or complex service. The post holder will work with Members of the Council and the representatives of the Council’s key partner organisations which requires sharp political awareness.  Strong organisational skills and excellent communication and workshop facilitation skills are also important. You will need to be confident in writing and presenting reports to public meetings and comfortable with being challenged both by Members and senior officers.

We are ideally looking to offer the successful candidate the full number of hours advertised above. We may however consider offering less hours than advertised providing they meet the requirements of the role and service which will be determined by the recruiting manager.

This role has been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2017; the requirement to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English applies.
