Vacancy Description

We are seeking an inspirational and imaginative strategic leader to take on the newly created role of Service Director, Adult Social Care within our People Directorate. This role will have a clear brief to continue our journey of improving and modernising service delivery whilst ensuring an appropriate focus upon resource allocation and financial management.

The right candidate will have exceptional communication and leadership skills, a proven record of forming and maintaining effective partnership relationships as we are leading organisational change. At a challenging time for the public sector we want to recruit a Service Director with the ambition, experience and drive to deliver our vision for the future. As well as leading our Adult Social Care services you will play a key role as part of the People Directorate Leadership Team and the corporate agenda of the Council reporting directly to the Executive Director, People.

This is a great time to join West Berkshire Council, with our already well performing Adult’s Services in the midst of an exciting modernisation programme. In this varied and fast paced role, you will provide expert advice to a range of stakeholders, including members of the Executive, providers and other partners to deliver demanding objectives. As an experienced, credible leader you will focus on the drive to improve the quality of practice, implement our modernisation programme and continue our work on integration with health partners as part of our well-developed Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) arrangements.

West Berkshire Council offer excellent employment benefits such as flexible working, access to a wide range of relevant training, local government pension scheme, family friendly policies, a range of local discounts and much more. You will also be entitled to a generous annual leave entitlement of 29 days per annum rising to a maximum of 34 days.

The Council's relocation expenses scheme will apply to this post, paying a maximum of £8,000 where appropriate.

You will be required to have a car available at work to undertake your duties as you will be expected to undertake at least 1500 business miles per year. This attracts a monthly lump sum allowance as well as free car parking.

For an informal discussion, please contact Andy Sharp, Executive Director (People) on 01635 519722 or 07833095956.

Interviews are expected to take place on 9th & 10th March 2020.
