If you wish to begin your career in Engineering, West Berkshire Council’s Highways Asset Management team could be your next step. We have a Career Graded Technician post and the successful applicant will be rewarded with an excellent package including the opportunity to study for an apprentice engineering qualification, flexible working hours and an essential car user allowance.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a variety of highway structure improvement and maintenance projects and we will expect you to take on more responsibility as you gain experience.

To start as a Trainee Technician you should be educated to GCSE level or equivalent including good passes in English, Maths and a Technical or Science subject.  Progression to Technician and Senior Technician will require a Civil Engineering qualification and relevant experience.

This role requires the incumbent to have a car available at work to undertake his/her duties as they will be expected to undertake at least 1500 business miles per year. Essential Car User status attracts a lump sum allowance paid on a monthly basis as well as a free car parking space if he/she works at one of the Council’s corporate buildings.
