We have the opportunity for a social worker to join our Contact, Advice and Assessment Service (CAAS team).
This social work vacancy is substantially within our multi agency safeguarding hub of triage and the early response, but with the requirement of working flexibly to cover the assessment side of CAAS (Initial assessment) if the need on the service requires it (annual leave, sickness, service demand for example).

The benefits of working with triage and early response is that the role is primarily office based, in Newbury and is a non-case holding post. As a result of this, the role would suit a candidate who is looking for an improved work life balance away from the demands of a case holding position.
The successful candidate will need to have strong skills in risk assessment, timely decision making based on risk and a good understanding of thresholds for intervention. The role of a social worker within triage is a demanding role and as CAAS is the front door of Children’s Services we require a confident individual who has relevant experience of this type of work.

West Berkshire have recently launched an Early Response Hub (ERH), with a focus on developing support plans for families at an earlier stage, with the aim of preventing families from reaching crisis and requiring statutory social work intervention. The Early Response Hub is a multi-agency hub and social workers in triage have a rota on time spent within the hub. The hub is in its infancy and we are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual to help drive this vision forwards.

Successful applicants will benefit from:
1. £15K retention bonus payable after 3 years in post.
2. A 3 month sabbatical after 3 years in post. (8 weeks paid leave and 4 weeks banked Leave).

Applicants must be qualified and active Social Workers who are registered with the HCPC. A full driving licence is essential because of the rural nature of the district. Our main offices are based in Newbury and the outskirts of Reading.

This role has been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2017; the requirement to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English applies.

This role requires the incumbent to have a car available at work to undertake his/her duties as they will be expected to undertake at least 1500 business miles per year. Essential Car User status attracts a lump sum allowance paid on a monthly basis as well as a free car parking space if he/she works at one of the Council’s corporate buildings.
