New homes, sports facilities, commercial development, schools or shops. Whatever the development, it has to go through the planning system, and everyone has a view. Are you ready to play your part in delivering a quality planning service to the community in this forward looking unitary authority that covers over 250sq. miles and deals with some 3,000 planning and related applications per year?

West Berkshire Council is committed to providing an efficient planning service that responds to the challenges and opportunities the planning system is currently providing. It is also committed to customer service and the fostering of talent. In recognition of the role planning plays in enabling wider goals, we are looking for talented individuals who can work as part of a team at senior planning officer level. In this area well placed for communications but with attractive surroundings we offer a high but diverse and rewarding workload.

Each post involves the full range of development control duties within the planning service. This includes examining planning and other applications, inspecting sites, negotiating as appropriate in order to ensure good design and quality in development, making recommendations and preparing reports, all in relation to dealing with the more complicated planning applications. You will also deal with planning and enforcement appeals appropriate to the Senior position as well as attend and present at committees.

These roles have been identified as public facing in accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2017; the requirement to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence in English applies.
