West Berkshire’s, 16 plus and Care Leaver’s Team has a rare opportunity to recruit a Qualified Senior Social Worker to join our dedicated team.

The 16 + Care leavers team is committed to improving outcomes for those young people in our care and those who leave care. We are seeking a Senior Social Worker with at least 2 years post qualifying experience, who is organised, highly motivated, emotionally resilient and skilled in communicating with adolescence, teenagers and young adults. You should have knowledge of the issues faced by care leavers and experience of undertaking court work, assessments and planning effective interventions.

The successful candidate will work with Looked after Children, Children Leaving Care and Children in Need which will include young people who are Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers. As a senior practitioner there will be an element of duty and management deputising, reflective supervision and training and development of the team members.

You will hold a complex case load of looked after young people from 16 upwards and some young people beyond 18 in a Personal Advisor role as appropriate. You will be required to fulfil statutory duties on behalf of the service. The post involves working holistically with young people to develop independence into adult life as part of a Pathway Plan, as well as general social work and case management duties, team initiatives and projects.

This is an opportunity to develop reflective supervision skills and Applicants should be registered with the HCPC.
This role will involve driving and transporting children so owning your own vehicle is essential, occasional out of hours working is necessary.

This role requires the incumbent to have a car available at work to undertake his/her duties as they will be expected to undertake at least 1500 business miles per year. Essential Car User status attracts a lump sum allowance paid on a monthly basis as well as a free car parking space if he/she works at one of the Council’s corporate buildings.
